Becoming a temporary foster family in Guatemala means welcoming vulnerable children and adolescents into the home. The Secretaría de Bienestar Social (SBS) requires passing a psychosocial study and a training stage; first-aid and CPR training is commonly expected as part of care, although it is not explicitly listed among the requirements.

The SBS temporary family fostering program, through the Departamento de Acogimiento Familiar Temporal (DAFT), requires passing a psychosocial study, a clean criminal and police record, a Registro Nacional de Agresores Sexuales (RENAS) certificate and a training stage, among other requirements. Current first-aid and CPR training — choking, wounds, cardiac arrest, including CPR for children and infants — is reasonably expected as part of that preparation, although it is not explicitly listed in the official requirements.

Training and accreditation are recognized by the SBS. The training is in addition to the psychosocial study and expected parenting skills, and should be kept current.

Deze aanbevelingen dienen als referentie voor gezondheidsorganisaties, instellingen en beroepsorden over de hele wereld – en worden bijgewerkt naarmate het wetenschappelijke en klinische bewijs evolueert.
