Guatemala's Labor Code and Governmental Agreement No. 229-2014 (amended by Agreements 33-2016 and 57-2022), enforced by MINTRAB and the IGSS, require employers to provide periodic first-aid instruction and maintain trained emergency-response brigades scaled to risk rather than a fixed first-aider-per-worker ratio.
Guatemala's Secretaría de Bienestar Social authorization requirements make daily childcare centres (Centros de Cuidado Infantil Diario) provide a director and teaching staff trained in first aid, plus a first-aid kit and emergency manual, as a condition of operating.
Under Article 156 of the Guatemalan Criminal Code (Decree No. 17-73), "omisión de auxilio," Guatemala imposes a legal duty to rescue anyone injured, endangered, or a helpless child under ten when it can be done without personal risk; failure to help is punishable by a fine of 25 to 200 quetzales.
In Guatemala professional membership (colegiación) is mandatory under Decreto 72-2001, and each professional college — for nurses, the Colegio de Profesionales de Enfermería de Guatemala — must maintain a continuing-education regulation; recognized CPR, ACLS and PALS training counts as continuing education when it meets the college's criteria.
In Guatemala, homes for the elderly and asylums care for dependent older people, and staff are commonly required to be able to act in an emergency and perform CPR; a recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate — alongside geriatric nursing-assistant training — is the accepted way to meet this, with exact requirements set by the establishment.
Guatemala's Secretaría de Bienestar Social (SBS) temporary fostering program, run through the Departamento de Acogimiento Familiar Temporal (DAFT), requires a psychosocial study, a clean criminal and police record, a RENAS certificate and a training stage; up-to-date first-aid and CPR training is reasonably expected as part of that preparation, though not explicitly listed among the official requirements.
Online CPR and first-aid training is recognized in Guatemala, with no explicit ban on online first-aid training for the workplace since the regulation requires periodic instruction and training without prescribing the format; our certification is valid for 3 years.
